NYX Professional Makeup is a beauty brand that originated from Los Angeles, California. It was set up in 1999 by Toni Ko, a makeup artist who realised that high-quality cosmetic products on a low-end budget were not available at at the time.

Initially, NYX Professional Makeup was only available to make-up artists and professionals within the beauty industry, but then in the mid-2000s NYX became available for consumers to purchase in stores in the USA. NYX was sold to L’Oreal in 2014 and became available in the UK in 2015.

NYX was always popular in America but since it arrived in the UK it has grown massively in popularity, and becoming one of the most popular cosmetic brands in the market over the last few years.

I discovered NYX via the beauty blogging community in 2015, after reading Hannah Louise’s review on her blog. A few months later, while I was in my final year of university (and totally bogged down with assignments), NYX launched in numerous Boots stores throughout the country, and I was offered the opportunity to work as a NYX Beauty Insider - which I was totally thrilled about! One of the best perks of the job was training for the role at L’Oreal’s headquarters in Hammersmith, West London, and trying out the products. It was such an amazing experience.

Best of all, NYX is still a firm favourite of mine. I love the fact that the brand offers a variety of pretty cool products that are high-quality on an affordable budget for the trendy beauty lover who’s not afraid to experiment.

I’ve tried and acquired a substantial collection of NYX products over the years. Here are my top picks.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

This is one of my favourite lip products ever and it is one of NYX Cosmetics’ most popular products.

This lip product leaves a soft and creamy matte finish and makes your lips stand out.

Whenever I apply this product (or any lip product) I always apply a lip balm first in order to moisturise my lips and to stop cracks from showing.

I have the Soft Matte Lip Cream in four shades: Copenhagen (dark red), Transylvania (vampy purple), Monte Carlo (neutral red) and Prague (pinkish purple.)

Alternatively, if you want a lip product that looks smooth, shiny and glossy then I would recommend the NYX Butter Gloss and the NYX Intense Butter Gloss.

NYX Liquid Suede Cream

Another popular lip product by NYX, the NYX Liquid Suede Cream, is so soft and leaves a smooth finish on the lips. I’ve used the shades Cherry Skies (dark red) and Vintage (purple.) To create a deep red shade, I recommend mixing the Liquid Suede Cream in Vintage with XYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen.

NYX Lip Lingerie

I recommend purchasing the Lip Lingerie if you would like to try a product that is similar to Kylie Jenner’s Lipkits but you are not willing to pay the high fees for the product, packaging and posting. The NYX Lip Lingerie is a cheaper dupe of Kylie Jenner’s Lipkits, and the formula is really smooth on your lips.

NYX Matte Lipstick

I love matte lip products and the NYX Matte Lipstick is another favourite NYX lip product. The product leaves a soft matte finish and it comes in a variety of shades with a hint of shimmer.

I’ve tried the NYX Matte Lipstick in Siren, which is a dark red/purple shade with a hint of fuchsia shimmer. Alternatively, if you want a lip product that leaves a glossy and shiny finish on your lips then I would recommend the NYX Butter Lipstick.

NYX Vinyl Liquid Liner

This eyeliner has a very thin brush so you can create the perfect winged look.

Out of all the liquid eyeliners I’ve ever used, this is one of my favourites. I love using eyeliner but I find it so hard to apply liquid versions, however the NYX Vinyl Liquid eyeliner brush is so thin that it makes the application much easier.

Alternatively, if you want to go for the bold and dramatic cat-eye look, then try out the NYX Super Fat Eye Marker.

NYX Mascara

I love big lashes! If, like me, you love huge lashes then I would recommend this product. I tend to buy mascara with a full brush in order to create voluminous lashes.

NYX Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer

This primer is light and has a silky smooth formula. It works effectively as a base in order to enhance makeup application. After applying makeup use the NYX Make Up Setting Spray Matte Finish in order to make sure that your make stays in place.
