How to get paid work as a beauty blogger
This blog post was originally published in 2018 and is in collaboration with GetBlogged.Net.
Hello everyone! I've decided to write a post on how to find opportunities as a beauty blogger, as I know how hard it can be to regularly find paid blogging work, especially when you're a small blogger like me.
Over the years, I've worked with some wonderful brands in the beauty, fashion and lifestyle industries. It might seem as though it's hard to get paid work when you're not a top blogger, but it's doable - as long as you blog regularly and network.
Now, just to clarify: I am not a full-time blogger and I don't make much of a stable income from blogging. I'm not even a part-time blogger and I don't make much money. I run my blog (which is a hobby) alongside my full-time job as a content manager in the digital media industry. However, since I bought my domains years ago, I've been working closely with brands, PRs and marketing professionals to write content on my blog and get paid for it, which has been pretty good.
Another thing to bear in mind: if you really want to get paid work you need to buy your domain. Most brands, PRs and marketing professionals will not work with you if you haven't bought your domain name. Buying your domain name means that you come across as professional (and not a hobbyist) and it means that you can track your domain authority. The higher your domain authority, the more you can charge for collaborations.
So let's talk. How can you get paid work as a beauty blogger?
How to get paid work as a beauty blogger
1. Get in touch with brands, PRs and marketing people
Opportunities are not going to fall into your lap. If you want to get sponsored post and collaborative work, then you need to put the work in and reach out. Create a media kit and pitch - explain how you'd like to work with them and how it will benefit them. When reaching out, you'll have to put in the time and effort and you'll have to be persistent, but it will be worth it.
2. Search for work via social media
One of the best ways I've been able to find work is through Twitter and Facebook. You can find work on Twitter using the hashtags:
#bloggerswanted
#bbloggerswanted
#prrequest
#beautybloggerswanted
#bloggersrequired
#beautybloggersrequired
#bbloggersrequired
On Facebook, you can join 'blogging opportunity' groups, where you can find fellow users advertising paid work.
3. Make yourself present and keep your blog consistent
I've been able to get the chance to write sponsored posts because I've had people randomly reach out to me after discovering my blog via Google or Twitter. Like I said before, don't wait for people to come to you, but if you are active on social media and you keep your blog content SEO-friendly, updated and consistent, then you're more likely to have people approach you out of the blue for collaborations.
4. Join paid blogging networks
One of the ways I've been able to frequently get work is by joining a blogging network website called GetBlogged.Net. There are plenty of websites and apps out there where marketing agents liaise with brands to produce content and coverage for their products and services through blog posts and social media marketing.
5. Use your beauty blog as leverage to help you achieve further opportunities
You can use your beauty blog to achieve lucrative career opportunities, such as:
Copywriting and content writing
Freelance feature writing
Blog/content management
Graphic design
Photography
Video editing
Social media management
Influencer outreach
Coaching/consulting.
