Recent acts of self-care
We all know how important self-care is. Self-care means taking care of yourself so that you can be healthy, and that includes doing things that help boost your joy. Sometimes self-care can be challenging, but it’s worth it, and it’s not just about the big things - it’s also about the small, random acts that make you feel good.
Inspired by content from wellness newsletter FWD JOY (Forward Joy), here are some recent acts of self-care - things that I’ve done to make me feel good and give myself what I need.
Recent acts of self-care
I spent Easter ‘chilling out, maxing, relaxing’ and not doing much.
I cooked myself a delicious meal, ate some chocolate, went out for a stroll and drank some non-alcoholic cider. Also, I blogged, listened to some music (Joss Stone is one of my favourite artists), listened to some pop culture podcasts and read a magazine.
I cancelled plans and stayed in.
I had planned to go to some home, property and lifestyle events in London, but I wasn’t feeling up to it. I was tired and I needed some rest, so I stayed at home and stayed in bed.
I had a therapy session a while ago.
Therapy is a safe space for me to express my thoughts, feelings and emotions, and it’s a place for me to process past traumas.
I’ve been taking naps on the weekends and during my time off work.
Naps make me feel relaxed and recharged.
I’ve been watching video essays on YouTube to get my dose of social and pop culture commentary.
In this category, I recommend checking out Mina Le, Tiffany Ferg, Adella Afadi and Jordan Theresa.
I went out for a stroll in my local area while the sun was shining.
I moved to Surrey last year and it’s amazing and beautiful to live in a leafy, suburban location.
I’ve been staying in touch with friends and family.
WhatsApp has been incredibly useful for helping me to maintain communication.
I’ve been trying to sort out my sleep habits.
I need to stop scrolling on my phone before bed. However, I’m getting a lot better at winding down in the evening and going to bed at a reasonable time.
I unsubscribed from loads of newsletters.
I was receiving too many emails (over 300 at one point!)
I’m back to being a bibliophile again.
Gradually, I’m getting back into reading (and listening to) books. Eventually I want to digitally detox, stop scrolling on my phone, reduce screen time and get into the habit of reading every single day.
