The Beauty Junkie's Guide To Saving Money On Makeup

I've always been addicted to makeup for as long as I can remember, and I know that I'm a total beauty junkie.

But when it comes to buying makeup, I've had to learn to save a penny or two. Over the years I'm pretty sure I've spent so much on cosmetics, and if I were to add up the cost, I'd probably have enough money for a nice holiday abroad or something.

If you like cosmetics but you really don't want to drain your piggy bank, then here are some simple and helpful tips on saving money on makeup.

Deals, deals, deals

Seriously, shop around. So many retailers have different deals and sales going on so you don't have to pay full price. Retailers like Superdrug and Boots always have the best to offer so take a peek.

Discount codes are your friends

If you shop online for beauty products then you can search for discount codes and save some dosh on your purchases. You can try the discount code websites or you can search Twitter and Instagram for influencers who promote their own codes.

FYI, you can get 20% off Coconut Lane purchases using discount code CHICHI20. (Feel free to check out the site's beauty section).

Go no buy/low buy

Going no buy or low buy simply means going for a certain period without purchasing any makeup products or purchasing very little. For example, you might decide to put yourself on a beauty spending ban for six months, or you might decide to restrict yourself to one beauty product a month. This is a great way to:

  • Reduce your spending

  • Use up the beauty products that you already have

  • Think before you buy instead of buying products you'll probably won't use

  • Prevent hoarding.

Don't buy on impulse

Do you really need that new lipstick? Do you really have to get that new mascara? Think about it. Impulse buying is never a good thing. Think before you spend and resist the urge.

Get samples

With makeup, you can try before you buy and get a tester of the product. You can get samples at beauty counters, makeup fairs and trade shows. If you're a beauty blogger then you can receive samples to review.

Sign up to newsletters

I know a lot of us hate dealing with a clogged up inbox, but by signing up to newsletters from top beauty brands and retailers, you can be the first to receive updates and exclusive deals and discounts.
