Plans for the future: big goals I want to work towards

Despite the pandemic and national lockdown, I’ve been working very hard. Thankfully, I’ve been able to work from home and I realise how lucky I am because I understand how hard it is to maintain employment at this time.

When the UK went into lockdown, I spent my spare time outside of work chilling and binge-watching content online. But lately, I’ve been reflecting on what I want out of life and making the most out of staying at home instead of getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. Also, it’s been really good to save money during this time! Before the lockdown, I was wasting so much money on commuting and buying lunch most days.

I have always believed in putting money aside, whether it’s for a big goal or for a rainy day. I like to save, but over the last few months, it’s been good to save more money than usual!

I’ve got a savings goal that I’m currenrly working towards, and I’m very close to it. It’s so good to be in that position, and now I feel much more motivated to save towards bigger goals.

Driving lessons

I started learning to drive last year. I wanted to start learning years ago, but I couldn’t afford it and I didn’t earn enough to afford lessons. I’ve come to find that no matter where you go or who you go to for lessons, the costs will drain your bank account massively, but I see it as an investment.

I haven’t had driving lessons since January because of the pandemic and because I wasn’t happy with my instructor (so I decided to take a break.) But once the pandemic dies down I’d like to continue driving lessons with a new instructor. My plan is to resume driving lessons from the start of next year.

Once I pass my practical driving test, I’d love to buy a car straight away, so that’s something else I’ve got to save up for.

Swimming lessons

I can’t swim. The fact that I’m a grown adult and can’t swim just annoys the hell out of me. I wanted to start learning this year but I couldn’t because of the lockdown.

I think the ability to swim is an important life skill to have, so once the pandemic winds down, I’d like to find a swimming instructor and start learning.

Fitness

I’ll hold my hands up: I’m not a gym bunny. I’m the type of person who likes to power-walk and that’s about it. I’ve tried getting into a fitness routine during lockdown, but I’ve been so lazy.

I need discipline and someone who can kick my arse (not literally!) so I’d love to attend fitness classes (such as Zumba, yoga, cycle and BTT) and invest in bootcamp sessions and a personal trainer.

Music lessons

I attempted to learn a couple of musical instruments as a kid, but I didn’t stick with them because music lessons cost money. I bought myself a keyboard and would practice from time to time, using an app and music book, but I’d rather get a music teacher.

Learn Spanish

I studied Spanish in school but I didn’t do well at it. However, I’m still passionate about learning the language and I’m considering paying for Babbel, which isn’t a lot of money.

Buying a home

This is something I’m not working towards right now (because I’m saving up for other things) but I’ve always wanted to own my own home. Within the next two years, I’d like to start saving up for my dream place.

What are your big goals that you’re saving towards?
