My Top Drugstore Skincare Essentials

This blog will focus primarily on makeup but skincare should receive a bit of attention because the skin is the 'blank canvas' that you put your makeup on.

Now, I admit that I am not a skincare expert, but I've tried and tested these products and they are the ones that work for me. I don't have a huge budget so I like to make sure that I can find products that boost my skin without breaking the bank.

Here are my top drugstore skincare essentials that are part of my skincare regimen.

Cleansing

I am prone to getting rashes and acne breakouts, so I try not to overload my skin with products and I prefer to use items that are gentle on my face. To remove makeup (or to kickstart the first part of my routine) I dab Garnier's Micellar Water on to cotton pads and then I wipe my face in a circular motion.

To thoroughly cleanse my face, I use Cetaphil's Oily Cleanser, which is quite pricey for my budget. Recommended to me by my dermatologist, it works well for oily and acne-prone skin. I use this along with my prescribed acne treatment. As part of my nighttime skincare routine, I rinse my face with Cetaphil's Oily Cleanser, then I apply the Skinoren Cream before I go to bed.

If I'm in the mood for a pamper session, then I'll use Superdrug's Cooling Cucumber Face Mask. I'll spread it all over my face, leave it in for around 10 minutes, then wash off. Not only does it detox my skin of impurities, but it leaves it feeling refreshed.

Toning

I don't have a specific drugstore facial toner that's my favourite or my 'go-to' but I recommend the Superdrug Simply Pure Refreshing Toner, which is suitable for use on sensitive skin and works to cleanse and soften the skin.

A toner that I've used and raved about that doesn't fall into the standard drugstore group is the Pixi Rose Tonic, which smooths and hydrates the skin, and gives your complexion a bit of a glow.

Plus, it's:

  • Suitable for all skin types

  • Free from parabens

  • Not tested on animals (the same point applies to all Superdrug-branded products)

  • Got a rose fragrance, which smells absolutely sweet and divine!

Moisturising

To moisturise my skin, I use a moisturising product for my entire face and body. I tend to use moisturisers that contain cocoa butter and shea butter, so I use Vaseline's Intensive Care Cocoa Lotion and Superdrug's Cocoa Butter and Vanilla Body Butter. These body creams are my favourites because they heavily nourish and moisturise my body, and they keep it soft, smooth, hydrated and healthy.

So there you have it! My favourite drugstore skincare items. As you can see, I don't use a million products because I like to keep my skincare regimen simple and I always like to go back to basics.

In my opinion, I really don't think you need to spend a lot of money to care for your skin, and your skincare regimen shouldn't be complex.
