My personal beauty hacks

best beauty hacks

Whether you’re getting ready, grooming yourself or getting your routine underway, applying some pretty cool beauty hacks is a great way to beautify yourself in an instant.

Here are some of my favourite and personal beauty hacks that you should definitely try out.

  • Instead of using shaving cream, use conditioner when shaving your legs.

  • If you have an afro, do the ‘LOC’ method the night before. Spray your hair with leave-in conditioner, then apply hair oil and hair creme. Once you’ve done that, then put your hair in twists and wrap your hair with a silk wrap.

  • If you have oily skin (like I do) then use blotting paper to remove excess oil.

  • Wipe your phone with anti-bacterial wipes regularly to prevent breakouts.

  • If you apply too much foundation or concealer, then use blotting paper to remove the excess.

  • If you apply foundation or concealer then apply too much blusher, use the beauty blender or brush that you used previously and gently dabble over the cheeks to tone down the blush.

  • If you want a luminous glow, apply a highlighter or glowy primer before you apply foundation.

  • Want to apply primer but have oily skin? Then select an oil-free primer instead of a primer that is smooth, silky or dewy.

  • If you have afro hair, deep conditioning treatments should have a place in your ‘wash day’ routine. I normally do a deep conditioning treatment once a week or once a fortnight. I apply a deep conditioner all over my hair, brush through with a detangler, wrap my hair with cling film, and then leave in for a short while. After that, I wash it out.

  • Apply sunscreen all year round, even in winter. Apply all over the face, down the neck and on your chest. It’s important to do this to shield yourself from UV rays, which are damaging and can speed up the ageing process.

  • Moisturise your body with lotion or body butter when your skin is damp. This is important because a damp body will easily absorb moisture.

  • When you brush your teeth, never rinse out the toothpaste. Let it stay on your teeth so that the fluoride can stay on your teeth for longer and keep them stronger and protected.

  • To give your lips a boost, exfoliate them with a lip scrub to buffer away dry skin and smooth the lips out. Apply lip liner or a lip crayon, then finish off by applying your selected lipstick, lip gloss or liquid lipstick.

  • To curl your lashes without a lash curler, use a mascara with a curved wand.

  • If you want to instantly lengthen, strengthen and volumize your eyelashes without using false lashes, use a mascara with a thick bristle wand. This makes lashes a lot more dense.

  • To make your body glow, add a couple of drops of liquid highlighter into your body lotion, mix, then apply the lotion all over your skin.

  • If you want to get false nails but don’t want to use glue, get KISS imPRESS nails! No glue required. *thumbs up*

  • Ditch the cleansing wipes! They don’t cleanse your skin and they’re bad for the environment. Use a proper cleanser as part of your morning and evening skincare routines.

  • Use a hydrating serum and moisturiser with hyaluronic acid to keep your face fresh and revitalized.

  • If you want a matte liquid lipstick that doesn’t dry out your lips, use NYX Professional Makeup’s Soft Matte Lip Cream, which has a creamy texture and leaves a smooth, matte finish on the lips.

  • If you want to use liquid or gel eyeliner but don’t want to smudge it, start off by using a kohl pencil first, then draw over it with a liquid or gel eyeliner.

  • Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day, every day. Hydrate yourself as soon as you wake up in the morning.
