Confessions Of A Beauty Blogger

confessions of a beauty blogger

What’s life really like as a beauty blogger?

Well, I guess it depends. One beauty blogger’s experience won’t necessarily be the same as someone else. I don’t know if I consider myself a ‘typical’ beauty blogger (whatever that means) but ultimately it’s something I’m passionate about.

Anyway, want to find out more? Read on.

My top three makeup staples that I always have to wear are:

  1. A bold purple/red lipstick/liquid lipstick.

  2. Black mascara.

  3. Black kohl eyeliner.

My favourite drugstore brand is NYX Professional Makeup.

If I had to choose between a smokey eye or a strong lip, I’d always go for a strong berry-coloured lip every time. My favourite lip shade to wear is:

  • NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen (a deep red shade.)

  • The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid in Mauritius/Dahlia 017 (a deep red shade.)

I’m currently re-evaluating my current skincare routine but it’s as follows:

  1. Cleanser

  2. Toner

  3. Moisturiser

  4. Eye cream

  5. SPF

I’m currently on the hunt for good skincare products for oily-skin that are gentle on the face. If you know of any then please let me know in the comments section below.

My best makeup tip is this: if you find it hard applying liquid or gel eyeliner without smudging, then start off by applying eyeliner pencil first. Then follow the line with your favourite liquid eyeliner.

The first makeup item that I ever bought was pink eyeliner from Claire’s Accessories when I was 13 or 14 years old.

When it comes to spending money on beauty products, I tend to save but I like to splurge from time to time. It depends on the product.

I’ve never worn false eyelashes.

My natural hair colour is black and I don’t dye it but sometimes I’ll get purple braids put into my hair.

I use a deep conditioning treatment on my hair once a week, using Aussie’s Deep Treatment.

I change my nail polish colour every few days.

It takes me 10-15 minutes to do my makeup and I always do my face first. I don’t do a full face of makeup everyday and I won’t do my makeup if I’m at home all day.

I love to have my nails painted and I have a wide range of nail polishes in my collection - too many to count. My favourite nail polish shades are pastel colours and deep blues, reds and purples.

I started beauty blogging because I wanted to create my own platform where I could talk about my passion.

How I came up with my blog name was pretty simple. My name is Chichi, I like to write and I love beauty.

I use stock photography on my blog. Most bloggers take their own pictures and I have a digital camera but I don’t always have the time to take photos.

What I love about beauty blogging is the fact that I have my own creative outlet and my own personal corner of the internet.

What I hate about beauty blogging is the fact that I don’t have as much time as I would like to dedicate to it.

I don’t consider myself an influencer.

Beauty blogging isn’t as glamourous as it seems. Yes, I could receive PR samples and attend blogger events, but beauty blogging requires a lot of hard work, time, commitment and patience.

I know some people say ‘blogging is dead’ but I don’t believe that at all. As I work in the digital media world, I’m very aware of how much the industry is always changing and evolving, but I’m also aware of the importance of blogging for business and the positive impact that can have on your brand. As for my beauty blog, I strongly believe that I’ll always blog no matter what. First and foremost, my beauty blog is a hobby. Anything else (freebies, samples, press events, blogger events, meeting fellow bloggers, making money, etc) is a bonus. Even if the bubble were to burst, I’d still continue to write beauty blog content.

I’ve never been able to create the perfect eyeliner flick.

My go-to mascara at the moment is Essence’s Lash Princess.

I’ve never contoured my face.

The best beauty advice that I’ve learned is this: establish a proper skincare routine and use SPF everyday, all year round - no matter what your skin tone.

I use highlighter once in a while.

My five desert island beauty products would be:

  1. Sunscreen

  2. Body butter

  3. Hair oil

  4. Lip balm

  5. Body scrub
