My month in beauty #1

glossier

I’ve decided to do things slightly differently on this beauty blog.

Years ago, I had the time and the energy to write, edit and publish a few blog posts per week. Now, I just don’t have that anymore. I work a full-time job and I have other hobbies and commitments outside of my job. I can’t blog as much as I ‘should’ and to be honest, I don’t want to.

However, I don’t want to quit blogging or content writing at all. I know a lot of bloggers are abandoning their blogs to switch to content creation on Instagram, but I don’t want to do that. It’s really important for me to have my own platform where I can write and share my thoughts.

I’ve decided on a new schedule/format. I’ve decided to run a monthly series titled ‘My month in beauty’ where I share my beauty loves and lifestyle favourites of the month. I will also write additional blog posts from time to time. I think running my blog this way is much more feasible for me, and it’s an easier way to consolidate my beauty and lifestyle blog content.

So, here’s to the new format, where I will be talking about my month in beauty and lifestyle!

Enjoy!

I spent £100 on Glossier products. Here’s what I bought

Remember when the term ‘feeling spendy’ was a thing? Well, I was feeling this way recently and I realised it’s been a while since I ordered some products from Glossier, so I decided to buy some stuff. I spent nearly £100 (£95 to be precise) and here’s what I bought.

Milk Jelly Cleanser + Futuredew Set (£30)

This is a ‘conditioning face wash and oil-serum hybrid’ that gives your face the perfect glowy and dewy look. Use as part of your morning skincare routine to give your complexion and luminous boost.

Priming Moisturizer Balance (£23)

This is a lightweight oil-control moisturising gel-cream that hydrates, minimizes pores and reduces excessive shine (which is an annoying problem to deal with if you have oily skin like I do.)

Mega Greens Galaxy Pack (£18)

This is a detoxifying cleansing face mask that’s packed full of antioxidants and nourishing properties for your complexion.

Glossier Priming Moisturizer Rich (free sample)

When you place an order with Glossier, you are entitled to a free sample. For my sample, I selected this fast-absorbing and long-lasting moisturiser for my face.

Glossier Body Hero Dry-Touch Oil Mist (£24)

Body oil is one of my go-to bodycare essentials so I was pretty keen to order Glossier’s Body Oil, which is a luxurious body oil that keeps the skin looking smooth and radiant.

Palmer’s Moisturizing Body Oil is keeping my skin smooth and shiny

Staying on the topic of body oils, I’ve been using Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Moisturizing Body Oil (enriched with Vitamin E) over the last few months to combat winter skin dryness. Now that we’re going into the spring season the condition of my skin is set to improve, but I don’t need to wait that long. This body oil literally does what it says on the tin: it keeps my skin feeling super smooth and shiny. I like to apply this after I’ve had a shower and it absorbs into the skin without staining my clothes.

EVY Sunscreen Mousse - the SPF for all seasons, climates and skin tones

Regardless of the season, the climate of the country you live in and your skin tone, you should be wearing SPF all year round to protect yourself from the sun’s damaging UV rays. As a dark-skinned black woman I find I have to be really picky about SPF products because a lot of them make me look ashy and pasty - and that’s not a good look. My favourite SPF product is EVY’s Sunscreen Mousse, which absorbs into the skin and gives my face a nice glow.

I have another beauty recommendation. I’ve not tried it, but I’ve heard that Black Girl Sunscreen is really good as well if you’re looking for a suitable sunscreen alternative.

Beauty news

It’s been announced that beauty and hair salons in England will be allowed to reopen on the 12th April. I’d quite like to treat myself to some beauty treatments. I could do with getting my nails, feet and hair done, and I’d like a back massage. However, I’m going to hold off for a while until we successfully transition out of a full lockdown on the 21st June.

What I’ve been listening to

I regularly listen to music and podcasts, but I’ve been enjoying listening to the Jackie Weaver Vibes playlist on Spotify, which is rather empowering! I’ve also been listening to the Mellow Magic most nights to help me fall asleep because the music is so calming and soothing to my mind.

I’ve also been listening to Divorced Not Dead by Caroline Stanbury. I’ve never been married or gone through a divorce but I have found this podcast to be very informative and helpful.

What I’ve been watching

I’ve been watching a lot of TV! I recently watched seasons 1 and 2 of The Masked Singer, which is the perfect, light, family-friendly entertainment I think we all need right now. Spoiler alert: if you’ve not watched the final of season 2, I’ll admit that I was shocked by the unmasking of the winner.

I recently binge-watched all seasons of Line of Duty (again). It’s one of my favourite shows that is full of action, and I look forward to the return of the show (later this month on the BBC.)

Like the rest of the UK and America, I watch Harry & Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

I also watched The Serpent, which is really good. The acting is phenomenal, but the show is based on a true story and it’s very depressing.

But on a lighter note, I’ve also been watching RuPaul’s Drag Race UK on the BBC and I’m loving it! And I watched Teen First Dates on Channel 4!
I haven’t been watching a lot of YouTube lately, but I absolutely love watching Lydia Dinga’s inspirational and aspirational lifestyle content. She’s really upbeat, positive and full of good vibes.
