My Face, My Rules With Sleek MakeUP
Before the pandemic, Sleek MakeUP launched a global campaign to help battle against makeup shaming. ‘My face. My rules’ were created to tackle the stigma that’s targeted against those who love to wear makeup.
A survey found that 75% of people think women look better with no or less makeup, so Sleek’s goal was to stand up for everyone’s right to define their personal beauty in their own way, and to represent and encourage beauty junkies to express and embrace their love to makeup – regardless of other people’s judgement.
Sleek MakeUP released its ‘My face. My rules’ manifesto to help drive the conversation for makeup lovers in the beauty industry.
The manifesto
1. We will be truly representative of all makeup junkies, especially those often ignored in the beauty industry.
2. We will stand up to makeup shaming and support our consumers in their passion for makeup.
3. We will continue to showcase our consumers and their amazing looks and skills in our campaigns, in the way they want to be seen.
4. We will be brave and bold in challenging beauty industry norms.
Here I am continuing that conversation.
My thoughts
First of all, I love makeup. I’ve always been fascinated with beauty. From a young age, I’d experiment with cosmetic products and I’d spend hours upon hours reading beauty articles in magazines. A decade ago, I stumbled across the beauty blogging and vlogging worlds online and that reignited my passion.
To be honest, I’ve never been the type of person to wear makeup to attract a man or to appease society. I have days where I love wearing makeup, but then I have other days when I don’t wear any at all. I think I still look pretty with or without makeup, so the statistics mentioned above don’t phase me at all.
Just to add, I don’t really have a set of ‘rules’ that define my passion for beauty, but I do believe in the mottos ‘do what’s right for you’ and ‘live and let live.’ If you want to wear makeup, then do it! If you don’t like wearing makeup, then that’s cool too! Don’t let other people’s opinions stop you from living your life.
Do what you want
I wear makeup because I want to and I believe that it enhances my beautiful appearance, and I feel as though it’s a form of expression for me. For myself, it’s a form of self-care and a confidence booster.
Overall, I couldn’t really care less if ‘someone else’ or society has a problem with the fact that I wear cosmetic products. I’ve had people make remarks about how I use too much purple lipstick, but do I care? No. Not really. After all, I’m the one who’s wearing it!
Life is too short, so why not do something that makes you feel comfortable? Do what you love!
My love for beauty will never die – and that’s the reason I wear makeup and write about beauty.
The obsession I have for beauty is the reason when I walk into a beauty hall, I feel like a kid in a candy store.
The passion I feel for beauty is the reason I can’t stop my ever-growing collection of makeup products, and it’s the reason I regularly receive beauty packages that make me feel as though my Christmases have come at once.
So I say, do what’s right for you, stand against judgement and support those who love makeup.
