How To Find The Right Hairdresser For You

From a young age, getting my hair done was one of the essential parts of maintaining my look, but I think that’s the same with most women or girls because hair is like the crown on our heads.

However, I’ve had a lot of drama and issues in the past with hairdressers. I’ve dealt with hairdressers who are rude, over-familiar, disrespectful, dismissive and lacking in basic customer service skills. I have also dealt with hairdressers who have ruined my hair or have done styles to my hair that I didn’t ask for.

As a result, I’m extremely picky about hairdressers now. I have a hairdresser that I see once in a while who does my braids but apart from that, I hardly go into hair salons now.

I believe it’s always good to have that one hairdresser that’s your go-to. It’s important to have a hairdresser who can do your hair the way you want, address your needs and treat you right.

Rely on recommendations

Even in this day and age of social media and the internet, word of mouth is still powerful so ask around. If you’ve got a friend who’s rocking a pretty cool hairstyle ask them about their hairstylist and see if they’ll pass on their details.

Find the right one for your hair needs and preferred styles

Some hairstylists specialise in certain styles, so try to find the right hairdresser who’ll create the right style for you. For example, I go to my hairdresser to get my hair braided because she’s really good at it (and really fast!)

Do your research

Google is your friend. It’s the best place to find hairdressers near you and you can read reviews. I also recommend the Treatwell app, which allows you to search for hairdressers and beauty treatments and book appointments.

Be highly selective

You have the right to choose your hairdresser and you also have the right to take your custom elsewhere. After all, you are paying for a service and it’s your money! If you don’t like your hairdresser, then leave and don’t go back.

Read reviews

As well as reading Google and Treatwell reviews, try viewing blog posts and vlogs from beauty bloggers and YouTubers. Some of their content might help you in the right direction when searching for the right hairdresser.
