Beauty essentials you didn’t know you needed

beauty essentials

If your beauty and makeup routines are standard, then you probably use the typical products and tools to groom yourself and enhance your look, such as body lotion, face moisturiser, exfoliator, hair conditioning treatment, nail polish and lip gloss.

But did you know that you might be missing a few items from your beauty routine and your collection?

Here are some of the beauty essentials you didn’t know you needed.

Hair masks

Deep conditioning treatments help to revitalize your hair, but to give it the extra boost, use hair masks as part of your haircare or hairstyling routine. Hair masks contain a number of nourishing ingredients that will help to keep your hair smooth and sleek.

Natural deodorant

For daily protection against body odour and to feel fresh, choose to use natural deodorant instead of a regular one. Why? Well, natural deodorants don’t block pores (which allows good bacteria to keep working) or trigger skin irritation, and they can help keep your underarms smooth.

Body oil

Most of us normally use a daily moisturiser, which is applied after having a shower. But to give your skin extra softness and smoothness, apply body oil on top of applying body lotion or body butter. For me, this technique has been a bit of a game changer as it’s helped to combat chronic dryness that I’ve been experiencing during the winter months.

Hydrating serum

No matter what your skin type is, every face needs hydration, so use a serum that contains hyaluronic acid as part of your skincare routine. A serum should be used to address your skincare concerns and to give your skin a boost, and it should be applied before applying face moisturiser.

Cuticle scissors

I believe that you should always use a 4-way nail buffer block to help shape and care for your nails. A 4-way nail buffer block does 4 things to your nails:

  1. File

  2. Smooth

  3. Buff

  4. Shine

However, there’s another way to shape and cut your nails. The Rubis Cuticle Scissors* is a curved pair of nail scissors that are guaranteed to cut your nails to perfection and trim your cuticles neatly. Designed with hand-sharpened blades, an ergonomic handle shaped to grip and high-quality steel, this pair of cuticle scissors shapes your nails to perfection.

Overnight lip masks

If you want to fight against cracked lips and give them a bit of a natural plump, apply lip masks overnight to keep them moisturised, then apply your favourite lip product in the morning as part of your makeup routine. Alternatively, consider using an organic lip scrub to exfoliate your lips of dead skin as part of your cleansing routine.

Blotting paper

Blotting paper removes excessive product and it can come in handy if you have oily skin or you’ve put too much foundation, concealer, blusher or highlighter on your face.

Eyelash primer

Just like a face primer is used before you apply foundation, eyelash primer is the ‘base’ for your mascara and it gives your lashes extra volume.

Nail treatment nail polish

If you find that your nails are brittle and lacking in strength, then you need more nutrients in your diet and a strengthening nail polish that will toughen them up and prevent chipping.

Hand cream with SPF

You need to apply SPF on your face, neck and chest - and the rest of your body - all year round, no matter what the season. But don’t forget your hands - they need protecting from the sun’s damaging UV rays as well.
